Jeffrey Weidell named MBA vice chair, with 2029 chairmanship ahead

Northmarq CEO Jeffrey Weidell has been sworn in as vice chairman of the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) for the 2027 membership year, marking a significant milestone in his longstanding leadership within the commercial real estate finance industry.
Weidell was sworn in on Oct. 12 during the MBA’s 2026 Annual Convention and Expo after he was nominated for the position in June.
With the appointment, Weidell is expected to advance to chair-elect in 2028 before assuming the role of MBA chairman in 2029, according to the association's bylaws.
Advancing industry leadership
The vice chairman position places Weidell on the MBA’s leadership ladder and among the organization’s most senior elected leaders. In this role, he will help guide the association's strategic priorities and advocacy efforts while serving alongside other industry leaders.
"It’s an honor to serve as vice chairman and help shape where our industry goes next," Weidell said. "I look forward to working alongside leaders from across the MBA to tackle the challenges and opportunities ahead and continue strengthening our industry for the clients and communities we serve."
The appointment reflects a career defined by commercial real estate finance expertise, industry engagement and commitment to leadership.
A history of industry service
Weidell's appointment reflects years of leadership within MBA and the commercial real estate industry, where he has served in several governance, advocacy and volunteer leadership roles.
He currently serves on MBA's Board of Directors and is the 2025-26 MORPAC Commercial/Multifamily vice chair. He previously served as chair of MBA's Commercial/Multifamily Board of Governors (COMBOG) and, in 2025, received the Schumacher-Bolduc Award in recognition of his leadership in driving MBA's advocacy efforts.
Weidell became Northmarq’s CEO in 2020 after serving as president for eight years.
During his tenure, he has helped guide the company's growth and transformation, including helping launch Northmarq's Investment Sales business, expanding its loan servicing platform, creating the Associate Producer/Associate Broker development program and broadening client offerings through new investment advisory capabilities.
