Northmarq donates to 30 housing non-profits across the U.S. as part of Northmarq Neighbors program
2021 sees 56% increase in non-profits served MINNEAPOLIS (Jan. 20, 2022) — As part of its new Northmarq Neighbors program, Northmarq has awarded grants to 30 non-profits in 25 cities across the U.S. This is the fourth year of Northmarq’s program to provide grants to deserving non-profits focused on affordable housing and reducing the impact of homelessness. More than $600,000 has been awarded since the program started in 2017, with more than $125,000 awarded for 2021. The program solicits nominations from leadership in each local office and had participation from 60% of the company’s offices, with a 56% increase in the of number of non-profits receiving grants, 30 in 2021 up from 17 in 2020. Jeffrey Weidell, chief executive officer, said the program is a critical part of Northmarq’s overall focus on community involvement, now organized under the Northmarq Neighbors platform. “We have always supported non-profits around the country, but a few years ago wanted to be more intentional with our support of affordable housing and reducing homelessness. Given that much of our business is in the multifamily sector, we are well aware of the value that stable, quality housing brings communities and families.” One recipient, Room at the Inn Homeless Shelter in St. Louis, was also awarded a grant last year. Executive Director Dan Weber said, “We are grateful for the continued support of the Northmarq. We were able to use part of the support to renovate our playground to be bigger and safer, and to help provide food for our clients who are homeless. Since COVID, we have changed our model, and are housing our clients 24/7 in our shelter as opposed to having them stay overnight at an interfaith partner. Not having to pack up and move every night has aided the mental health of our clients. We are truly grateful.” The community grants are designed to encourage giving in communities where Northmarq employees live and work and expand relationships that will strengthen local markets. In addition to the grants, the Northmarq Neighbors program recognizes the time, talent and financial donations from employees, leadership, and the company to non-profits across the country.
