Eugene Harris is a vice president of Debt + Equity in Northmarq’s St. Louis office. He works closely with clients to determine the optimum capital structure for commercial and multifamily real estate and utilizes Northmarq’s extensive network to secure the necessary debt and equity for each property. Sources include life insurance companies, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, HUD, CMBS lenders and banks, as well as numerous equity investors. Eugene has experience with all levels of the capital stack, including limited partnerships, preferred assets and mezzanine financing, in addition to extensive capital market and consulting experience and expertise in transaction structure.

Eugene has held numerous positions in the financial services industry for 28 years. His experience includes asset management, investment banking, mergers and acquisitions and private equity. He most recently has been managing member for Step Change Advisors, LLC, where he managed a portfolio of marketable securities in excess of $100 million for high-net-worth individuals. Prior to that, he served as chief financial officer for Fulcrum Securities, a broker dealer with over $1 billion in assets. Additionally, Eugene was senior managing director for Flagstone Securities, a boutique investment bank, where he structured transactions and raised over $500 million of capital for small private and public companies. He also held positions in general management at Monsanto Company and management consulting at Bain & Company.

Eugene has served on numerous for-profit and not-for-profit boards. His for-profit experience includes companies across numerous industries. Most recently, Eugene was a director for the Business Bank of St. Louis which was sold to Stifel Financial in 2018. He served on numerous committees including the Executive, Nominating, Compensation, Asset Quality, Loan and ALCO and chaired the Capital and Acquisition committees. He was also a director for Multiband Corporation, a NASDAQ listed company, which was sold to Goodman Networks in 2013, where he served on the Governance and chaired the Compensation committee. He was Chairman of the Finance committee for Jazz St. Louis and oversaw an $8 million capital campaign for the purchase of new buildings and redevelopment of the facilities.

Eugene earned a graduate degree from the Sloan School of Management at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) in 1989 with a master’s in management. He completed his undergraduate studies at Stanford University in 1986 with a bachelor’s of science degree in industrial engineering with honors. He graduated Cum Laude from St. Louis Country Day School in 1982 and was the Missouri State High School Mathematics Champion his senior year. He holds series 65 securities license and has previously held series 24, 63, and 7 licenses. Eugene is also a CFA charter holder and member of the Financial Analysts Federation.
