Insurance Supervisor Lindsay Ellingson is known as NorthMarq Capital’s insurance wizard when it comes to solving complex insurance issues. While she may not wave a magic wand around the office, her array of analytical and communication skills and her strong attention to detail amount nearly the same thing. If you have an insurance problem, Lindsay is your solution. Coincidentally, Lindsay is a Harry Potter super-fan and likes to attend at least one Harry Potter event each year—perhaps this is how she maintains her insurance wizardry!
Prior to joining NorthMarq Capital, Lindsay held various customer service positions from a young age and, after graduating from the University of Minnesota, worked at a financial advisory firm and in the servicing division of a life insurance company. After joining NorthMarq in 2014 as a commercial insurance analyst, Lindsay quickly demonstrated her insurance knowledge and rose through the ranks, ultimately assuming her current role as Supervisor in 2017. Whether it is industry trends or technical contract language, Lindsay is known as the person who can answer all of your insurance-related questions. She attributes this skill to her life-long enjoyment of solving puzzles, going all the way back to the science and math competitions she participated in during elementary and middle school.
While in elementary school, Lindsay also discovered her passion for studying languages, particularly Mandarin Chinese. This interest led her to obtain a B.A. in Asian Languages and Literatures (with a focus on Chinese). While at the U of M, Lindsay spent a semester abroad at Fudan University in Shanghai, China, where she learned a lot about finding commonality with people who are different from you, as well as the importance of appreciating the perspective of others. These experiences enable Lindsay to be the team player and outstanding customer service representative that she is today.
Lindsay is also responsible for training new employees at NorthMarq and enjoys the opportunities that training presents. “It’s rewarding to witness someone have a light bulb moment, either with understanding a concept or problem-solving a complicated situation,” she said. Lindsay’s ability to put herself in the shoes of others and explain things in an easily understandable way is greatly appreciated amongst new hires. As one new team member recently put it, “Lindsay knows everything.”
One reason Lindsay is able to establish rapport so quickly with others is her capability to laugh at herself. She is approachable, a good listener and validates your questions or ideas—these qualities are what make her successful at collaboration on complex issues as well as training others. Lindsay Ellingson is NorthMarq’s one-of-a-kind insurance wizard!
