Biography
Russ Kappenman is a Managing Director of NorthMarq. He is responsible for asset advisory services, proprietary lending, and joint ventures. Mr. Kappenman has 22 years of real estate and finance experience including lead management responsibilities for four publicly traded closed-end bond funds for 14 years.
Mr. Kappenman has extensive experience managing a variety of real estate investment products. This experience includes a wide assortment of real estate asset classes with investment activity completed at all levels of the capital stack. Mr. Kappenman has led teams responsible for the creation and implementation of the entire investment and management processes. These teams have successfully invested in excess of 3.8 billion of real estate capital. Mr. Kappenman has managed real estate capital on behalf of public and private sources and has successfully navigated through a variety of real estate markets achieving industry leading performance results. Mr. Kappenman has transacted with a diverse group of institutions including investment and mortgage banks, commercial banks/thrifts, governmental entities, and investment funds.
Mr. Kappenman’s stakeholders have realized consistent, competitive investment performance over extended periods of time through the creation of quality management teams, sound investment process and dynamic investment models. Mr. Kappenman’s previous capital source received numerous awards from Lipper Closed-End Fund Service recognizing performance over the one, three, five and ten year periods. Mr. Kappenman believes deeply in an integrity filled, team managed environment to achieve superior investment results.
Mr. Kappenman’s previous experience includes three years as Director of Corporate Taxation for a regional investment bank where he designed and implemented tax strategies for a variety of financial products and types of companies. Areas of responsibility included C and S corporations, RICs (mutual funds), REMICs (securitized structures), venture capital funds and real estate and investment partnerships. Prior to being employed by the investment bank, Mr. Kappenman was a Senior Tax Consultant with Deliotte & Touche. Mr. Kappenman is a licensed CPA.
