Texas Real Estate Icon: William Ross
While
William Ross is fairly new to NorthMarq Capital,
he’s definitely not new to Texas real estate. He’s made
his mark in the community in existing mortgage banking
firms and as an entrepreneur, when he successfully
started his own firm in 2001. He joined NorthMarq in
2009 and earlier this year, was promoted to President,
with responsibility for the relationship with
AmeriSphere, a Fannie Mae DUS lender partially owned by
NorthMarq, and the eastern region of the U.S.
William joined NorthMarq in October 2009 and has been
associated with the mortgage banking business in Dallas
since 1976. He began his career at Southern Trust &
Mortgage. In 1989, he was a founding principal of
Keystone Mortgage, which in 2000 was sold to Capmark
Finance (formerly GMAC Commercial Mortgage). At Capmark
Finance, he was the executive vice president responsible
for managing Capmark¹s Nationwide Mortgage Banking
network.
“William has a unique combination of an
entrepreneurial spirit with the management style needed
to be successful in a large company,” said
Ed Padilla, CEO of NorthMarq Capital. “He’s not a
traditional boring bureaucrat because he is an
independent thinker with an uncanny ability to build
relationships in any situation.”
In his leadership role at NorthMarq Capital, William
serves on the Executive Committee, which also includes
Padilla,
Jeff Weidell, president/regional director for the
West region;
Mike Myers, executive vice president/chief
administrative officer;
Larry Stephenson, executive vice president;
Tim O’Connor, executive vice president; and two
managing directors who rotate annually.
Sam Davis, senior managing director-Alternative and
Private Investments, Allstate Investments, who has
worked with William during the last seven years, says
that his ability to build relationships makes him
valuable to institutional investors. “He is one of a
small handful of correspondents across the country who
acts like an extension of our business. We have a lot of
trust that William will bring us the right opportunities
that meet our investment criteria, understanding that we
are conservative and strategic,” he said.
Todd Harrop, Investment Leader-Real Estate
Investments, Nationwide, has worked with William Ross
for more than 22 years and echo’s Sam’s thoughts. “I can
truly say he is one of the finest and most respected
mortgage bankers in the industry. He has consistently
demonstrated an ability to create "win-win" solutions
for both lenders and borrowers. His track record for
success has been remarkable, earning the trust and
respect of his lender and borrower clients,” he said.
“His actions have had such a positive impact on so many
of us throughout the real estate industry.”
William is a graduate of the University of Texas at
Austin and has a Master of Business Administration
degree in finance and real estate from Southern
Methodist University. He is a licensed real estate
broker in Texas and serves on the Mortgage Bankers
Association’s Commercial Real Estate/Multifamily Finance
Board of Governors. In addition, he has served on
numerous life company correspondent advisory councils
including Aegon USA Realty Advisors, Allstate Investment
Company and Nationwide Life Insurance Company as well as
the Executive Council of the real estate finance and
investment center at the University of Texas.
William has served, for the past eight years, on the
Board of the Salvation Army for Dallas/Fort Worth. He is
married with two daughters and one granddaughter.
